  from next april new 5p and 10p coins will be issued.
  at present they are copper alloy, the new ones will be steel and nickel.
  the problem is that they will be 2 mm thicker than the old ones meaning major changes to such things as parking meters and vending machines.
  this will save the royal mint about £8 million per annum but the cost to manufacters is not yet known.
