Just re-read the link and the Aycliffe one is still in the pipeline, I previously thought it was up and running.

I think you may have read the link about aycliffe wrong it says work completed last year includes aycliffe.
Aycliffe play area is up & running, has been for a while now.
The local community also has a boot sale safari in the summer to raise funds for among other things a skatepark for the local children.
Just as an aside we moved to Aycliffe in Dec 2011 from bermondsey in south London. The best thing we ever did. The people here and across Dover are so friendly and we love living here.

Welcome to the forum Alan, as an ex Londoner myself Dover is such a relaxed and friendly place to live with a very low crime rate contrary to what some merchants of doom say.

Welcome Alan.
I am also an ex Londoner having moved to this district nearly 50 years ago, I would never move back there and only visit when I have to, a horrible, dirty, noisy and unfriendly place.
Howard, it is usually only those born in Dover that seem to slag the town off, I can never understand why they do not move away if they dislike the place so much.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Howard, Ilford is the boy I remember Jan. Shame about West Ham. He has a pedigree.

This grant has been rehashed a few times and welcome as it is the amount required to get a play area in Priory would probably be about 10 times that. Keith will have more knowledge of this than me.

From what I remember various people had different ideas of where it should be put and after a period of time DDC got fed up and spent the money somewhere else.

Howard
A number of sites were looked at and run with by the community,
unfortunately none taken up by DDC.
At the end of the day everyone in the ward wants a play area.
To save DDC being able to get away with no providing the dosh promised, I joined wit CAWCA to get all the cllrs from all parties representing the ward to give a vision for the ward and view on the play area.
We did explain to all cllrs our preferred site, in the hope that everyone would work together
unfortunately it appears there may still be divisions which will only satisfy DDC who can walk away again.
Priory deserves better

Hi Howard
Whilst I applaud all those that have secured £8,000 a number of questions remain.
1Is the money anywhere near the £45,00o or whatever the figure is to secure a play area?
2; Where will the rest of the dosh come from?
3;The site Is not supported by the vast majority of residents within the ward, thus why the local
community association met the cllrs in an attempt to stop divisions, obviously some went there
own way ,only time will tell how this pans out.
4; Who will maintain the play area?
5; will other sites suggested be considered
6; Do the cllrs want to work with all the community to secure the play area?
7; Speaking with Cllr Cowan (and looking at the article)its a little less clear if he has agreed to give
£10,000
All in all of course it's great to get a small amount towards a play area.
but theres a long way to go, and achieving you need to bring the community with you, I'm still not sure this is happening.
We will have to see how this developes
but up to now its a very small move forward(of course w should always be grateful) but theres still a long road ahead.
