If this comes off it will be a great tourist draw.

Will it need planning permission? If so we can rely on DDC to scupper the plans.

I'm sure UKIP locally could raise that immediately if it came with live rounds

There has been talk of a noon day gun at the castle for years, the problrms lie not with the gun but the crewing of it. These guns are not easy to use, you need a crew of 4 or 5 persons who know what they are doing, blank fireing shells need to be made, again by an expert, and both they and the powder required needs to be stored correctly.
Dover branch of the Royal Artillery Assciation fires a 'live' 25lber gun on occasions, fired by ex gunners or those trained by ex gunners. There are many problrms with this idea, many of which will not be overcome, otherwise we would have had a gun in use years ago.
The gun idea comes up every few years, rather like a cablecar into the castle, it's about time that that reared it's ugly head again!
For what it's worth ,during my 25years at the castle I was part of the 25 pounder crew on several occasions and so I am well aware of what is required where the fireing of large field pieces are concerned.
