You know the old saying..if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, then its a duck. But not in this case. These things look like bees, walk like bees...etc etc..but they are not bees, but what are they??
Every summer they come for a short time, they only appear at dusk....and they buzz around like mad. Hundreds of 'em. They dont appear to sting or anything as quite a few have bumped into me over time. This year there are many times more than before. Perhaps the mixture of heat and damp has resulted in them proliferating.
This was the scene last night. Not easy to get a qood picture as the buggers wont stay still and pose.
In a week or maybe sooner they will vanish and reappear next year. Its a mystery to me.
I've never seen them anywhere but Dover.
