After doing what we was told I took the key of the store back and went for a meal and got my kit ready for the big night ahead.
This was one of the very few times we had to wear boots ,it was done so the public could hear all the bands marching down to the band stand.
They always had a well known public person to introduce each band as they marched playing down to the bandstand, out
to the public,that was done in the way of a microphone that person also had the job of telling the public all about each of the music numbers we were going to play.Well the big night came we had so many army and R.A.F. bands turn out for this one. and all the bands lined up on the roads to march down both sides to the bandstand .the bandstand look great all in darkest at first and as each band were marched down the name of the band was called out and a big spot light picked the band out which was marching and playing at the same time when that band took its place on the bandstand a light would go on over them.
