At that time I also had my name down for working on the pilot cutters it was the best paid job in Dover for lads £5 per week and the only job in Dover you had to wait to gt a job put you name down on the list till it came your turn .
Well my turn came the week I came out of hospital so I did not go back to the job I was doing but went down and sighed on as a cabin boy and also helping out in the galley it was a great job working 3weeks on then a week off with pay.
But the down fall, you was at sea for two weeks and I just could not get over being sea sick I was ill with it.
In the end the Captain called me in and told me,even knowing I was a good worker and doing my best he would have to send me back because of the time I was not fit for work.
I was sad to see that happen but at that time it was for the best.
