  I absolutely detest the man, and have done ever since I found that he blocked BBC news from his satellite service to get a foothold in China, and refuse to buy his papers or subscribe to his TV service.
  That said I find myself wondering if there isn't some coincidence in the fact that the recent uproar has culminated in his backing down from trying to acquire BSKYB. Am I just drawn to conspiracy or could there be some orchestration going on between rival powerful players who want to see him thwarted?

  I fancy that the principle of "Occam's razor"* applies here.
  
  Members of Parliament have felt themselves rather put-upon by the media, especially the press, of late. Much of the thrust behind recent events is no more than revenge. Revenge dressed up to look like a re-appearance of back bone, but as ever a semblance shall suffice.
