BarryW Im a big fan of The Shootist too.. Always been a John Wayne fan anyway and he went out in style in that one, his last film, he knew it was to be his last film while doing it, so he is purposely signed off in fine style with a semi-autobiographical script.
There is one very enjoyable moment when Big John still riding his horse is nearly run down by a motorised vehicle. The owner of said vehicle gives him a mouthful of abuse along the lines of 'old timer getting in the way'...and John Wayne says in that wonderful drawl way of his...
"well -excuse- me - all- to- hell!"
We knew that JW would run across this nasty specimen again and indeed he does !
