  Making a profit does not make it impossible to offer a good deal - quite the reverse! I loathe all mega-super-markets like Tesco (strangely, I like Waitrose..........) but that is mainly because they do, as Marek has identified, create a vacuum in town and a dependency culture in the suburbs. Waitrose tends not to fall into that one. If Morrisons are offering good deals and quality and making a profit, result and respect!! I still prefer the personal customer service that small shops (and Waitrose!!) offer.
  
  Now, if Waitrose would kindly send me my brown envelope.........................
