Once again at Northbourne avenue in Tower Hamlets the Playpark has been attacked once again and it seems in broad daylight.I was in the area today and all seemed ok.Later this afternoon i noticed that one of the metal entrance gates has been torn from its post.Probably took some force to do it and possibly more than just one.Not so long ago the litter bins were set alight and theres been many more incidents since the park was refurbished.Rumour is that its usually the same few each time that cause problems down there, but allthough theres cctv cameras mounted on the lamp post,i dont think that anyones been caught yet.I heard that there was an incident there just a few months ago and when it was reported they was told that the cctv wasnt working on that occasion. It seems that its getting worse in that area, cars are getting badly vandalised but yet no one ever seems to get caught. Its ridiculous.Whats the point of the cctv?

If the CCTV is the same quality as in the town centre then it is not fit for purpose. The images are so grainy that identification of culprits is near impossible, assuming they are not wearing hoods in the first place.

I,ve heard of this. With the thousands they spend on it you would expect better results.I think the cctv kit that was selling in Aldi was probably better quality.Back to the vandalism, the Northbourne avenue area is becoming really bad.

Andy, has the incident been reported? If it has then the CCTV will be viewed for that time slot. It is very important that all incidents of ASB are reported. I will let the CSU know.

I often think the only way to deal with these youngsters and sometimes their parents is to destroy or remove something that belongs to them, for example their TV or computer, then they just might realise what it is like to loose something as most other punishments seem to have little effect. That would only work if these vandals can be identified which unfortunately seldom appears to happen.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Good idea Jan all other punishments seem to have no real effect, community service orders yield little and asbo's are seen as a yoof badge of honour to some.

I think it's the Community safety or support unit, they'll give you a leaflet 'have you been a victim of crime' in case you've been traumatised by what's happened! But seriously though they do do some stirling work with no real powers.

Hopefully they,ll get some results this time.It could be traumatising if some poor kiddie gets run down by a car because theres no longer a gate there to keep them in the park when there having fun. These mindless ***** couldnt care less when they cause damage like this.I also feel very sorry for those who keep the scout hut going which is such a valuable asset for the Hamlets. They,ve had more than their fair share of vandalism,break-ins and problems with local troublemakers.

Perhaps we could get our councillors to donate their ipads and put them in the cctv boxes they'll produce better results than the cameras that are in them at present.
