More on the benefits of Aspirin.
- 7 December 2010 09:4983548Yet again we hear on the news programmes that the simple and commonplace drug called Aspirin has even more benefits than originally realised. Just a few years ago something of a revelation occurred when they discovered that the drug had near miraculous benefits on those suffering with heart problems. It could limit the possibility of heart attack and stroke and so on. Quite an awakening.
But it didnt stop there..Now in a latest report published by The Lancet, the medical organ of weight and note, scientists have discovered that the drug is also miraculously beneficial to those suffering cancers and that it could prevent some people getting cancers. The cancers mentioned include Bowel cancer, Stomach cancer. Cancer of the Osophocus, Im sure I havent spelt that right... Lung Cancer and some others.
If people take it between the ages of 50 and 75 it can reduce the risk of cancer by 20% and possibly more than 20%.
So quite a benefit and quite a revelation...and all just now today coming to light.
However the report suggests that you should not take it yourself but discuss it with your medical practitioner first...just in case its not suitable to a particular individual.
But amazing to hark and realise that this simple medicine with us for years had this massive undiscovered potential, undiscovered until now.

at the time the medical experts claimed that aspirin caused stomach bleeding, gradually it has worked it's way back to being important again. - 7 December 2010 11:0083557Yes I think there is still some talk of stomach bleeding still Howard, and of course taking any drug over long periods of time could have some side effects. Anyone reaping the benefits of Aspirin would be required to take it this way..ie longterm, so therefore a chat with the doctor is needed prior to embarking on such a course.

The reason they stopped giving aspirin as a plain pain killer, is because, I think I'm right in saying, some people were having a severe reaction (mainly children).
It is given in small doses to prevent strokes.
The therapeutic dose is 75mg per day, but the normal strength was 300mg and taken 3 or 4 times a day for a prolonged period often caused bleeding.

But yes indeed the dose needed is smaller than the standard tablet size of 300mg...75mg as you say. Dont know if tablets in that dose size are readily available as of yet.
Going off on a tangent a little bit with regard to the various types. I got Solpadene recently as I fall for all dem ads on TV and you cant take it for more than three days for fear of becoming addicted to the codeine content. Codeine is I beleive a derivative of morphine or opium or similar. Buying them packaged costs a fortune.

How is it is so good for you if so many who only had aspirin as a pain killer when they were younger died of stomach cancer, like my father for instance. Or did the aspirin help cause the cancer in the first place?-----------------------------------------------------------------------
