Far from being the nanny state it's about time that something was done about this scourge. It's working with tobacco (banning cigarettes is the workplace, pubs etc.). which has had an overall beneficial effect on the nation's health and pub culture leading to the opening of many more pubs in towns and villages up and down the country.
I'd like to go further, however, with a tax on salt, fat and oils including butter and biscuits and other extremely unhealthy produce which manufacturers loosely describe as food. A salt tax would be a major improvement.
At a stroke fast food outlets should be taxed immediately with a massive hike in taxes to help our dear children who know not of the horrors of blocked arteries.
All in ll a good thing which is a good start before, hopefully, the government raise the minimum unit price of alcohol to a more realistic £2 per unit.
