I read somewhere last week end the mobile phone was thirty years old. When the first one came out it weighed eleven & half pounds & all you could do with it was to make & receive a call not like these days.when you can text surf the net & even take pictures. life was so much simpler them days.
I remember the days of the 'mobile bricks' with their long rubber ariels. I got my first one in 1989. I did a feature for the then popular 'What Mobile' magazine and got to try several different phones (with free calls!) We had the phone 'Oscars' and I attended the event at a posh London hotel with a six course meal hosted by Noel Edmonds. Tony Blackburn and Mr Blobby also made an appearance - sad but true!!
I can remember when my mate started a new job back in the mid 80s.He came to see us and proudly show off his company mobile phone.I think it was a Motorolla,a sort of car battery with a shoulder strap with the keypad on top.Hardly portable,it weighed a ton.
