11:5570543Has anyone noticed the commemorative plaque built into the brick wall just beyond Hertz Car Rental for The Hippodrome in Snargate Street has vanished, it looks as though someone has used an angle-grinder to remove it

At Dover Society we learnt that this was missing last week.
Although not one of our "Official Plaques" we are deeply concerned as it is important to commemorate major historical sites. I think Terry Sutton may be putting something in DE this week.
Last time it was removed it was done so by DHB due to repairs/work but I do not think this is the case this time. It certainly looks as if someone has taken a shine to this plaque.

15:0770565Well, if the powers-that-be let the town centre become ever-more derelict, scruffy, crumbling, neglected, vandalised and ragbag, then this sort of depressing thing is going to happen more and more, isn't it? Very sad. No, sorry, I meant scandalous. Yep, that's the word.

18:3170623A good set of descriptive words that sum up parts of the town. Scandalous does it for me, too.

19:0970636I wonder if perhaps the demolition company working on the site have removed it to protect it.

19:1070638that sounds a sensible thought, i cannot see any reason for anyone to steal it.

19:1470639Looking at how carefully it looks to have been removed it hardly seems likely to be an act of vandals. I could be completely incorrect and somebody's thought that rather than let it disappear as the rest is demolished they've decided to take it for "safekeeping".

19:5470646I believe that some of the travelling community, who we often celebrate in our multi cultural and diverse society, are quite keen on recycling.

17:1072468Downfast who are doing the demolition believe that Lilybrook took the plaque down in order to replace it when the work was done - has anyone asked them ?
