    Dear Reg,

Great news! At the end of last week European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefcovic announced new rules for the funding of pan-European political parties and their associated think-tanks. One of these changes now requires EU funding only be given where these parties and foundations observe the values of the European Union, "namely respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities". The last part, on minority rights, is a new addition.

The BNP will now struggle to receive any additional EU money.

These rule changes are a result of pressure first exerted by HOPE not hate after we learnt that the BNP, along with French and Hungarian fascist MEPs were to receive €300,000 of public money to fund their political work. We immediately contacted British MEPs, who were unaware of this, and they began demanding a rule change.

We have choked off a €100,000 a year funding stream from the BNP. This is a great victory.

The BNP is furious. That's €100,000 they can't spend on their racist literature. They were also hoping to establish a think-tank to access even more money. That too should be stopped.

All we have to do is convince the European Parliament and European Commission that the BNP, and their French and Hungarian counterparts, do not comply with these new rules. We plan to send a briefing to the EU, EP and all MEPs in the next few weeks.

I'm also pleased to announce that issue four of the HOPE not hate magazine is out. http://www.hopenothate.org.uk/gethope/

The new issue reveals how a leading anti-Muslim activist in the United States has offered to donate to the EDL's co-leader Kevin Carroll's campaign to become a police commissioner. We expose the violent nazis who are behind a campaign of intimidation and violence across Merseyside. We explore online radicalisation and how Al Qaeda is increasingly adopting the same tactics to incite as their violent far-right counterparts and carries an interview with Frances O'Grady, the first female General Secretary of the TUC.

You can subscribe to HOPE not hate magazine here: http://www.hopenothate.org.uk/gethope/

HOPE not hate has scored a huge victory by blocking funding for the BNP. Please help us continue our work by reading our magazine.

    Thanks

    Nick
