  Perhaps this is yet another 'loss-leader' to attract the shopper to the store. Such schemes are common and famously involve alcohol. Milk however could be considered a food-staple, but if it is costing the store their profit margin on milk it is not having an increasingly detrimental effect on the producer.

  So...
  Payments to suppliers, producers and employees must also go down.
  If...
  Payments went up. (?)
  Produce could be dearer and of higher quality. (?)
  BUT...
  Increased profits may suffer. (?)
  
  The time is at hand to invest in 'Magic Bean' futures?
