At 10.30 on 12 February 1947, a large meteor, with a mass estimated at 100,000 kgs, smashed through the Earth`s atmosphere and created a violent explosion at 5.6 kilometre`s above the Sikote-Alin mountains near Primorye, in Russia. There were a number of eyewitnesses as it was in daylight. Fragments pierced trees, and although much of the large chunks went off for display in museums or for research, some fragments have wound up in private collections. I bought the piece above from a well known and respected dealer on Ebay a few years ago. It`s composition is mainly iron, with nickel, iridium and a few other elements. The idea of this thread, is to just advertise the fact that we mustn`t just think of the human race destroying the planet, there`s bigger one`s than this 1947 example up there, much much bigger, and just imagine this large speciman falling on a populated area. It hasn`t happened yet, but it will. My reasons for any country committing themselves to any space programme.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.
