I think Graham is making a big thing out of this, should be up to each mayor in my view.

I am surprised he is even making an issue of this, lets be honest who sings that dirge of an anthem out of choice.

He's a royalist. We have a constitutional monarchy and a royal family. Singing or playing the national anthem is an expression of patriotism. In most countries the members of any local body which banned the national anthem would be lynched. Those are undeniable facts.
Perhaps we should change it from GSTQ/K to Rule Britannia, that should satisfy those who don't want a monarchy.

I don't think that anyone is trying to ban it just a case of whether a new mayor wants it as an add on to the ceremony. As far as I know there hasn't been a previous incumbent requesting it.

Abolish the town council and it will no longer be an option!

Or as Dover is one of the Cinque Ports, how about a rousing sea shanty?
What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor? could be ripe for a parody after the recent resolution.

The abolition bit seems to have gone on a back burner, not enough notice given for discussion at the AGM and it doesn't seem to be on the agenda for the next full council meeting.
