It's easy to be cynical isn't it? Where's the harm in giving this support instead?

The presentation by the Dover Town Team co-ordinators (four local business owners) was very good and very positive - I'd say there were 40-50 people there, a good attendance given the short notice.

Don't get hung up on the figure of Mary Portas - quite frankly no-one is under the delusion that the potential money that is being bid for is even going to scratch the surface of the problems for Dover. But that's not the point, the Portas idea has worked as a catalyst to try and bring business and community groups together to try and push the positives of Dover. Even if Dover fails in the bid, it's beginning to bring together the non-political community to have a crack at their own way of promoting this town.

It's very early days and too early to go into specifics of what the group intend to achieve but the general aim is to create an internationally recognised Dover brand - under the Bluebird logo - that will be used by local businesses and community groups to pull together and promote this town. A new website will be in the offing to try to centralise and co-ordinate the current disparate online marketing of Dover. The planned 'Bluebird' trail of sites and shops has great potential.

The concept is about bringing the community, retail and others, together to deliver improvement. In my view it deserves support.
