the chaps in yellow were addressing the planter with what appeared to be sledge hammers.

Ah, the free market that is Dover.
You must be free to look upon the sponsored Christmas tree without the 'distracting' competition of lesser planting in the vicinity.
You will be charged for the removal of the planter, for your undoubted enjoyment of the sponsored Christmas tree, for the removal of said Christmas tree and for the re-instatement of the planter. [the storage of what was the planter and a mark-up on the materials for the 'new' planter will also carry a small fee. plus VAT]

The answer to that Howard lies in the personality of MT.
Think of the lion, witch and wardrobe. The white queen...queen of a land where it is always winter, but never Christmas.

The sign post(s) is rusted through so I have written to Kent Highways (a while back - 27/10/11)) about it/them - the one on the other side is rusted through too.
I'm sure they are now replacing them.

Do you remember all those busy busy debates when the screen first came..was it any good? was it right for Dover? was it in the right location? was it annoying the residents in the square?....but none of us asked the question.. would we be losing the fountain on account of it?

So the fountain is boarded up on, amongst others, safety reasons.
Why then is there a damn great hole on the corner waiting to trap an unwary foot?
Given that DDC read this column I won't bother to report it. I have a busy day and can't spend half an hour on the phone listening to a recorded message.

Sorry, I thought this was about the workmen in the Mkt Sq. and what they were up to.

I put it here Roger because the fountain was mentioned and it also seemed to be about safety i.e. signposts rotting.
The condition of most the woodwork isn't all that good.

terry is right about posting pics on here rather than wasting time sitting on the phone or sending e mails that don't get answered.

I agree the photo and posting from Terry showing the dangerous fountain hoarding was an important post Howard, I was just commenting that you'd started the thread about the workmen in the Market Square asking what all that was about; there was then some irrelevant postings - not yours Terry (apologies to those who posted them), so I posted what it was about.
I checked in the Market Square yesterday and both signs (either side of the entrance) have now been replaced. There's still one in the flower bed that needs replacing, so I'll get back to Kent Highways to see if they are going to replace that one too.
