Thought I would start a thread drawing on comments today on different threads. In a couple of days time the multiscreen cinema will open and people(mostly young) will arrive from nearby towns that don't have a cinema. Then we will have curious people wanting to see the complex.
Most will go through Market Square and see a closed pub, a café with promise(as per Patrick's photos), a plinth with nothing on it and planters that once offered elegant sailing ships but forgotten soon after the photo opportunities were complete.
Brian is correct in that cruise visitors will be with us soon and gaze upon our centrepiece in wonder.

Have you forgotten Howard that as far as our councils are concerned Dover hibernates until after Easter and usually awakens sometime in April or May if we are lucky.

I don't know legalities but there must be a mechanism where his holiness the Mayor and his cohorts could admit to being totally clueless and transfer ownership of Dickens Corner to a professional business that would reimburse dosh to the charity once they have made a profit?

I understand there have been a number of conversations between Love Dover & the planning officers which has meant the plans have had to be revised as LoveDover are very keen to get this absolutely right at the first time of submission.
I also understand that in the original Town Team proposal for the Market Square area there was a link to St James proposed but the landowner would not sell to them at a reasonable price. Notwithstanding this there are two entrances close to the square - Flying Horse Lane & Dolphin Passage, with proper signage these should encourage people to enter St James on foot from the town via Stembrook or Market Square itself.

If that is the reason fair enough but considering LoveDover acquired the property about six months ago that means a hell of a lot of meetings or they just sat on their asset for ages and did nothing.

"very keen to get this absolutely right" - has Graham Tuthill been brought out of retirement again?
