Shame on Syria and shame on China and Russia. This has to stop. Good people of all kinds are dying, being murdered - babies, Syrians, journalists, just people - in full view of the world and without sanction. Words are insufficient.

Yes saw this on TV earlier. Great shame. Although there have been loads of reports about shelling and casualties..the TV always up til now carried the proviso that the deaths/shelling could not be confirmed as there were no journalists there.
The appalling situation can most certainly be confirmed as of now...because here we have it confirmed in concrete with the loss of a familiar name who risked all to bring us this very fact, and confirmed it with the loss of her own life.
I would hope the Americans could do something. There has been a stepping up of rhetoric coming from Washington despite being hamstrung at UN level.
We are watching as Syria murders her own, in the most barbaric and unrestrained way. Where are the UN and the EU? Another guy who died within a short time of these heroic journalists had been recorded as saying that "the west" was not involving itself as it did in Iraq because there is no oil for them in Syria. Is there anyone who can tell me differently?
I say again: shame on the UN, the EU and especially on China and Russia, for allowing the beyond brutal massacre of innocents to continue without punishment or even sanction.

So so sad to hear this dreadful news today, Marie Colvin was a superb journalist and a very brave one too. What a terrible waste, I'm almost lost for words.

Very sad indeed and nothing from the Arab League to stop the killing. As Bern says, Russia and China are quite happy for this to continue - but why ?

the arab league seems to be a toothless organisation each state seems to be careful not to get involved with another's problem.
the arab spring is turning out to be a damp squib with life getting no better in tunisia and egypt.
Not really so. There is still cruelty and killing but the pathways towards democracy have been started. With Syria there seems to be no room for western intervention as with the others and the question of oil inevitably comes in. It is morally offensive if that is the reason we are not even trying to stop the bloodshed.

Such a shame to lose a war correspondent/journalist as well respected as Marie Colvin, she has done an excellent job covering wars and upheavals spanning the globe during her career, a very brave lady, R.I.P.
