Looks like East Kent does not have the economy at present to support an airport, let alone 2 [Lydd].

This is very sad indeed, but like everything - use it or lose it.
Most people down here know about Edinburgh/Glasgow etc. but I don't know of much publicity or marketing that has been done here, to beckon or encourage those in Southern Scotland to come to East Kent/Dover District.
Perhaps also, it's the routes chosen; why, when they closed Manchester, did they choose Belfast ? I'd have thought that Dublin would have been much more popular.
There are also places like Tenerife, Majorca and other European sunspots that can be travelled to throughout the year (well 11 months of it).

it might be if they just concentrated on just one airport instead of two, won't happen of course.
the endless public enquiries with the for and against factions of ramsgate and lydd would see to that.

The Edinburgh and Belfast routes were only there because gaps in the schedule allowed them rather than an empty plane sat on a runway for a few hours
Been nice knowing you :)

This is all about the routes chosen. Im sure Manston could have a considerable market if they chose, or probably more appropriately were able to get, the right routes. There was a big launch a few years back when someone announced they were flying to Virginia..there's no demand for that kind of thing. One could tell them that in advance.
Then Belfast...can you see the people of East Kent rushing headlong to Belfast. Its just not happening because the routes are not desirable.
A market would instantly pop up if they flew to various locations in Spain from Spring to Autumn..or they flew to Nice or Paris any old time. Commercial routes are the answer...but of course they must know this, so they must be hampered by airport slot availability or similar.
