I was told, second hand, that DHB wanted Del Monte to take over the running of the cranes/drivers. If it's true, a very stupid and a crazy idea. Why would anyone think Del Monte would agree to that move? Again, if true, is it just a bad judgement call or are there ulterior motives behind it?

I was also involved in setting up the cruise terminal and worked there for a couple of years. Dover will always be up against it with being in a bad winter position. Cruise companies have a big responsibility to keep to tight schedules and avoid missing ports due to bad weather, Dover's position in the channel will always put it at a disadvantage. More emphasis should be put into getting more "port of calls" cruise ships to visit Dover. To do that, you have to give cruise companies a reason to visit Dover. The work force is a big problem for the cruise terminal, agency staff do not have the same commitment that the original workforce had. They won many awards for their services during that period. I doubt they are receiving many now.
