RNLI Dover Lifeboat Station
25 mins ·
Dover Lifeboat was paged at 1850 last night by Dover Coastguard to assist in the search for a Belgian registered trawler that had been reported missing earlier in the afternoon.
Manned by a crew of eight, the lifeboat met rough seas and strong winds from the moment she left the port and proceeded to a search area designated by the Coastguard and a comprehensive search was commenced along with Dungeness Lifeboat, fishing vessels and rescue helicopters from the Coastguard, the RAF and the French authorities. During the latter part of the search, Hastings Lifeboat was also launched to assist.
Despite many hours of searching in very challenging conditions nothing was found and the search was stood down in the early hours of this morning. Dover Lifeboat returned to station and was refuelled and ready for service at 0300 after nearly eight hours at sea.
It does not look good for the trawler not to be found when so many were looking for it.
