Im in agreement with the Home Secretary and HMGovernment who have taken the decision to ban the crazed pastor Terry Jones. You might remember him...he was the one who threatened to burn the Koran last year causing widespread international consternation.
In fact the level of consternation he caused was way beyond this man's level of importance. Unfortunately this story went ballistic, circulating the globe at rapid speed, and the whole mess became very unpalatable indeed. The White House seemingly looked on powerless, being only able to offer tut tut style rhetoric.
Mr Jones's actions could have resulted in very serious fallout of a very dangerous nature...so in the interests of peace and some kind of wider religious acceptance and tranquility, this kind of gesture must be completely wrong...especially from someone claiming to be a pastor. I emphasise the word 'claiming'.
Alas he has learned nothing...he was on Radio FOUR less than an hour ago talking to John Humphries and saying...
"all other religions who do not follow the Christian path are of the devil"
which as any religious leader will tell you is complete balderdash.
Basically this is all entirely political and nothing to do with religion at all, although it is cloaked in a religious veil, a thin veil.
So in my view the Government were right in refusing to give this guy a platform. There is no room for extremists of any kind. The usual baloney about freedom of speech is being quoted but free speech comes with responsibility. Inciting hatred and causing widespread damage is not the proper use of free speech.
