Lunchtime organ recitals

admission is free though donations would be gratefully accepted.
this is part of their festival of music and art with plenty to come over the next 7 weeks.
will post on the other events later. - 10 June 2012 07:32177351Always uplifting to hear a church organ in full cry. Should be great at St Mary's. Only last week at the Cathedral in Boulogne, I'm showing off now, I heard JSBach's Toccata and Fugue wafting through the powerful organ pipes. The piece of music is indeed powerful and very often a standard organ piece. You might hear it at St Mary's.

Speaking of Boulogne...here is a picture taken from the inside of the Dome of the Cathedral there ( Notre Dame). The outside will be familiar to many, in fact on a clear day I can see it from my rear window, but here to balance things up is a shot of the inner for all to enjoy. Huge it is...

- 11 June 2012 08:29177505Yes it is a stunning example Howard and situated in the old town. The Dome stands at 100 metres high. Or in other words..very high. Rebuilt in the 19th Century but I understand there have been pilgrims to the site from very early times. I will set myself a challenge to try and photograph it from my rear window. It can become particularly visible in the evening sun...but of course its a long way off for a photograph.
But back to St Mary's and I hope the organ recital goes well tomorrow, always worth putting a few bob in the plate to help in maintaining this piece of our heritage.

Another one next Tuesday at 1pm. Organist will be David Flood, Organist and Master of the Choristers at Canterbury Cathedral, so the recital should be a good one! - 13 June 2012 16:26177916Thanks for that update Sue - good to hear that. Yes the 50 mark is quite good and the weather was fairly miserable as I remember so pretty good. The next one has an impressive organist.
email: dover7@msn.com - 14 June 2012 09:24178031As promised here is a picture of that magnificent dome in Boulogne( see post 2) as taken from Dover rear window yesterday evening...there was good visibility even if a tad misty, and you can at times get it even clearer..but its always nice to see Boulogne shimmering over there in the evening sun.
