A recent discussion on the forum mentioned this great 70's comedy series and prompted my to do an Amazon search and to buy it on DVD.
I found the first series terribly expensive for what it is at around £26. That is a lot of money for a 10 part 1970's sitcom but I bought it nevertheless.....
Glad I did too....
It puts todays pc comedy in the shade. Yes production values were not so high back then, it lacks some of the slickness of today's comedy, but it was genuinely funny, something so much that we have today fails in.
Of course it is a show of its time and reflects attitudes of that time. It is no bad thing to look back either.
For those who dont know the show is around two couples, neighbours:
The white trade unionist bigot and the clever Tory black man with their respective wives. Quite true to life really!
Paula and I enjoyed it so much I have ordered the next 4 series (total cost less than the first series!). I expect I will get the remaining 3 series as well soon at only about £3 for each!
Thoroughly recommended for a good belly laugh and a spot of nostalgia - anyone remember Vic Feather and High Scanlon?
I will know that sanity has been restored to this country when, one day, these programmes get repeated on Freeview.
