15:2680490A recent discussion on the forum mentioned this great 70's comedy series and prompted my to do an Amazon search and to buy it on DVD.
I found the first series terribly expensive for what it is at around £26. That is a lot of money for a 10 part 1970's sitcom but I bought it nevertheless.....
Glad I did too....
It puts todays pc comedy in the shade. Yes production values were not so high back then, it lacks some of the slickness of today's comedy, but it was genuinely funny, something so much that we have today fails in.
Of course it is a show of its time and reflects attitudes of that time. It is no bad thing to look back either.
For those who dont know the show is around two couples, neighbours:
The white trade unionist bigot and the clever Tory black man with their respective wives. Quite true to life really!
Paula and I enjoyed it so much I have ordered the next 4 series (total cost less than the first series!). I expect I will get the remaining 3 series as well soon at only about £3 for each!
Thoroughly recommended for a good belly laugh and a spot of nostalgia - anyone remember Vic Feather and High Scanlon?
I will know that sanity has been restored to this country when, one day, these programmes get repeated on Freeview.

17:4880514I think its fair to say i enjoyed the programmes at that time, but even the two male actors admitted they would never do such a series again, and looking at it now even tho at the time it had humour, it probably wasnt a good thing.

21:5880595Well, if you thought 'Love Thy Neighbour' was non-PC those wonderful chaps at NetworkDVD who specialise in obscure and cult ITC productions, released 'Curry And Chips' last year:

I've not seen it, but the reputation of this Eric Sykes and Spike Milligan effort is quite notorious.
Probably the worst taste 'sit-com' ever produced was 'Heil Honey I'm Home'. a British show from 1990 that involved the 'amusing' shenanigans of Hitler and Eva Braun living in a flat next to a Jewish couple. It was never aired, can't think why. If really curious to see it, it's on YouTube.
Personally I'd love to see repeats of 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum'.

22:0680598I agree with Aint Half Hot Mum, a great series - available on DVD!!!!
For me anything that is an antidote for the stiflling political correctness that is destroying out entertainment has to be good.
The problem these days though is if certain words are used the pc dummies throw a complete wobbly totally ignoring the context.
LTN is not rascist at all but it does throw a light on rascism, demonstrating the whole pointless stupidity of it.
I just detest the meally mouthed, po faced pc anti-free speech boobies that lack the intelligence to understand and appreciate Love Thy Neighbour, Alf Garnet and so on.
