Admiral Sir George Michael Zambellas GCB was appointed the new Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports in May of this year. His installation ceremony will take place at the Duke of Yorks' Royal Military School on Tuesday 29th October. This is just two weeks away.To my knowledge there has been no local publicity whatsoever. The only traceable knowledge of the event online appears,of all places,in the minutes of Tenterden Town Council on 11th September.Compare this on the one hand to the big Dover town events that were occasioned by the installations of three of his four predecessors,Sir Winston Churchill in 1949,Sir Robert Menzies in 1966 and the late Queen Mother in 1979,yet on the other hand the total lack of publicity of Speaker's Day in Dover last year.Does anyone recall what happened when the late Lord Boyce was appointed in 2004?Has the installation now become a private event only? There seems to be a lack of communication somewhere, assuming anyone is interested.

 Here you go.
'Lord Boyce arrived in Dover on board HMS Albion at the Port of Dover before being taken to Dover Castle in an open-top Rolls Royce. He struck an inpressive pose as he acknowledged the cheers of the crowds through the town centre.
Mayors from the Cinque Ports and officials from the Confederation gathered for the Hallowing Service in the church of St Mary in Castro. Lord Falconer, the Lord Chancellor, was among those present.
The Installation Ceremony itself took place at a sitting of the Court of Shepway in the ancient Priory of St Martin, now Dover College, in the town centre.
A 19-gun salute rang out across the town, fired from HMS Albion, and there was a flypast of Sea Harriers'.
'A cocktail party for 300 guests was held on board HMS Albion, followed by the Royal Marines Beating of Retreat against the backdrop of floodlit Dover Castle.'

Historical yes but in this day and age does the average local person really care about who is or even what the Lord Warden represents or does.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Dunno if I'm an average local person Jan but personally I like a bit of ritual and tradition and dressing up and flummery.

Those cited above were very well known and at the time important people unlike the recent Lord Wardens.
BTW. I also like important historical ceremonies (that can also help tourism) where I have previously heard of those involved.

 Sue
I have always been on the left
Quite openly not a supporter of costly hangers on in royal family and dressing up brigades .
In today's climate where people are struggling to eat or heat , I'm not sure these little dressing up brigades can be justified

Struggling to eat? Don't talk rubbish Keith. Have you seen the land whales lumbering down your High Street recently?
Meanwhile in Tower Hamlets, NHS bariatric surgeon; Professor Udule Umbongo spots a woman with a BMI of 35 coming out of KFC.

 Dear Captain Haddock
Thank you for your enquiry sent to the webmaster address. Unfortunately, the event is fully subscribed so we have had to regretfully say no to requests such as yours.
I hope you will be able to view the events on the Annual Dover film and on local news.
