Some nasty deep puddles catching people unawares on the A256 between Whitfield and the Barville roundabout. Not nice hitting 6 inches of water at 70mph.

It is absolutely horrible torrential rain..pounding on the roof, almost bashing in the windows. I don't think I have ever seen rain like it and it persisted in waves all day...beware the deluge! There is some unfortunate local flooding too as we can see and as we have seen on our TV screens further north. The level of rain is directly linked it seems to the warm January...flowers are blooming across the nations parks and gardens bewildered by the ambient temperatures.
Took this picture through a downpour last night looking towards the Port ... only essential traffic ventured out.

Very different this morning from Paul's photo, sun and a slight breeze to help with the clearing up. For lovers of irony on the list of flooded roads is Canute Road in Deal. History repeating itself?

What a beautiful morning after all that rain. Just been up the Battery to eat our lunch in the sunshine. We were really enjoying it when a middle aged guy came over to our car, leaned on the roof and asked my husband "Are you swingers?" He replied "No - are you then?" to which the man grinned and said "Yeah ....", I gave him a dirty look and he went back to his car!!
"oooo - Betty!" as Frank Spencer would say

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Just had a message from the Environment Agency that groundwater levels in the Dover Alkham Bourne catchment are very high and rising, the Alkham and Watersend bournes will soon start flowing, and there are likely to be problems for households in the area using septic tanks for sewage.
Didn't stop local volunteers helping the South East Rivers Trust to install a fish pass in Kearsney today.

I don't know how saturated the earth is but after a pleasant day yesterday the rain is back with a vengeance, hopefully it will not cut off too many roads especially the more vulnerable rural ones.

The official local rainfall for Tuesday was 90mm - we recorded 70mm on our weather station, just 13.5mm today but should stop soon.
