Can anyone recommend a quality local tyre fitter before I go giving my business to the big corporate companies?

Local tyres. Are they ones you use just to pop to the shops?

A1 Tyres at the Glenmore Centre in Whitfield, opposite Travis Perkins, are very good and very well priced :)

I agree with Charlotte that A1 Tyres are very good and I found to be the best in Dover.

Elmsvale Garage (7 - 13 Elmsvale Road, 01304 201077) can get (almost) any make of tyres and they are very good on prices too. I bought 2 Continental from them last year and surprised at the (low) cost.

Small garages are often better and cheaper than places like Kwik-Fit. Also when the car goes up on the ramp their mechanics tend not to make that strange sucking noise through their teeth when they see the state of your exhaust/brakes/steering/shock absorbers.

I've heard those sucking noises too Peter, but they only make them when you are within hearing distance - whether there's a problem with anything or not.

I,ve just used Poulton service centre and they are also very good for tyres. Many of the smaller garages are now using the same tyre suppliers that will do daily deliverys to the trade,so the smaller garages can order the tyres they want even just a single tyre without having to carry £1000s of stock so it works out better for everyone.

I usually use Steve at Eythorne Garage, he lets me get my tyres on the internet and fits them for about £10 a corner inc valves, balancing and disposal, +VAT.
