The usual howls of anguish go up but where would the money be recouped from elsewhere?

I do not drive so have no axe to grind but this seems rather stupid considering how our local shops are already struggling to stop customers going out of town. The extra £195,000 is peanuts with regard to the DDC budget and most probably be swallowed up policing this pointless increase.
"Cllr Collor said that despite the increase, the charges were still the cheapest in comparison to other councils such as Canterbury." This is a silly remark comparing Dover to Canterbury, they are completely different.

I was about to make the same point Jan, he can't make the comparison to a similar local town as they are all cheaper. Dovers on it's arse and our council seem to like it that way, roll on the next council election.

They could save a big chunk of the money by doing away with their own car park expansion, and start charging the staff to use it, nurses and doctors and just about everyone who works in town centres have to pay, the rest of the world is doing its best to reduce carbon ommisions DDC is encouraging more car usage by its own staff.

Trying to compare us to Canterbury, they have the park n ride which i use regularly, just £3 for a car and up to 6 people and you can park for upto 24hours.Thats what i call value for money.I wont pay to use our car parks, they screw enough money out of us for everything else.

I donot agree with the above posts ,I agree with Cllr Collor our car parks have to be maintained also the ticket machines ,I have sat on endless budget meetings always difficult decisions have to be made. Dover District Council Tax is one of the lowest in Kent .I have seen the amount of money that can be used for services decease every year .To save the increase of £195,000 would you prefer to see the Musuem closed which , already operates on a very tight budget .Less money spent on our Parks. The Public toilets much to my dismay were closed a few years ago.
The Car Parking charge does not stop people using local shops What is needed is more choice ,and until the business rates are reduced it is difficult to the attract the individual shops which Dover once had.
Canterbury always draws people but for everyday shopping Dover still has all that is required for daily living.

So is it going to cost an extra £195,000 to keep to car parks up to their present standard.
The increase must surely mean that there will be even less parking space on residential roads like mine as more people will refuse to use the town's car parks.

Maybe they should learn to stop wasting money.Councils seem to be good at that.
