Showing the part of Dover and saying it is a ghost town, that is not true the part they are showing in the Express is from the M& S down to the church, they know like us that the M/S is to open again after it has been done up, Dover is looking a lot better than other towns in East Kent and cleaner also police are doing their job now making a nice place to walk a round once more. Its the local paper that to get its act better and do the right reporting ,sorry they cannot do that because they do not have any reporters any more like they used to and no office in the town.

Just read the following on FB, typical local paper, trying to stir up trouble yet again

...........
"Not so much disgruntled as disappointed. Sue Jones, the Mayor of Dover, was invited to present an award at the Sea Cadets award event on June 22nd. She wasn’t told what the award was, or that it was made in honour of ex Mayor Ronnie Philpott, a real friend to Sue. Unfortunately she was unwell and unable to attend. She gave notice and, let’s face it, this can happen to anyone. The Sea Cadets were understanding.
But. A certain gentleman decided to write a letter to the local paper criticising this as disrespectful to the memory of Ronnie. The local paper fact checked and then decided to print the letter anyway. This creates upset and sadness where it really isn’t called for.
Personally, I agree with Sue. If you are ill, stay home. I say no more"..........

Morning Jan;
I don;t know to much about Mayor engagements, my understanding is there has been a mayor present for a number of years and maybe dep or Cllr could have gone?
if the sea cadets did nt make it clear then they are as much at fault

I'm beginning to wonder whether B & M have changed their mind over the former M & S outlet, I emailed them three weeks ago asking them when they intended to open and still haven't had a reply and no work has been going on inside.

Her son and his father went in her place.
..........."Shaun Shaggy Philpott This was in no way disrespectful. Both myself and my Dad were honoured to be invited to the event and present the Award on Sues behalf. Sue and my Mum supported each other during their Mayoral commitments and where great friends. I am sure if Sue was well enough to attend she would have done so.
Both myself and my Dad find it disrespectful that
some people clearly have nothing better to do than shamefully complain about something that was presented in honour of the wonderful work and contribution she made toward the Dover Sea Cadets and I for one would again like to thank them for that.
Mum would have been Proud.".............

It should not end there Keith it shouldn't end until the paper has accounted for themselves and apologised to Sue, Ronnie's family and the sea cadets!

This rag will be waiting for the rebuttal letter so it keeps their meagre ratings from slipping even more.

I would hate to be seen to be defending the paper if the view is the letter was wrong surely its the letter writer that should be apologising ?

Maybe Keith but the letter writer is protected by freedom of speech the newspaper has to protect the reader and comply with IPSO press standards.

Hi
I stopped buying the express like many others years ago when they ran very personal items, hardly encouraging all as they say they are a community paper.
Even when going through the channels they can be found guilty(if your lucky) and just use there insurance to bat it off.
more likely you will lose and on they continue

I have never used drugs of any kind except those prescribed by a medic but I can see the logic of legalising cannabis.
General legalisation would then be a way of 'policing' the price, quality and strength and hopefully that would lead to less petty criminal activity leaving more police available to deal with 'real' crime.
It should definitely be legal when prescribed by a medic as recent cases have highlighted.

The war on drugs was lost years ago, much simpler to legalise them and tax them so revenues could be used to fund treatment programmes for those that get addicted. No more criminal gangs or school leavers finding it more profitable to deal small scale rather than get a proper job.
Every so often we hear the police and customs after a successful prosecution say that anyone who tries to smuggle will get caught and sent to prison despite evidence to the contrary.
