19:3081019Seems the local music scene is on the up, over the weekend at least 7 pubs locally had bands on over the weekend, some of them as many as 3 over the course of the weekend.
Personally I think this is great for music lovers, but might cause a problem for publicans as they try to attract the live music crowd

19:4981026I don't see a problem Ross. You'll have to elaborate.

i think that ross is saying that there is not enough pub custom to support a lot of live bands.
if he is saying that i agree, having said that give me live music over recorded stuff every time.
a young band local to me called "strangely addicted/addictive" played at the "castle" pub on the 13th, did anyone see them?

20:3681046Howard, that is indeed my concern
Like you I think it is great that pubs are turning back to regular live entertainment

08:4881079Maybe at £3.00 a pint and some much more, it could be that people just can't afford to go out to see these live bands.
If money is tight, something has to go, but it isn't usually the drink.

09:1581084By the time the band has been paid the landlord often makes no extra profit, that is why some have to charge at the door. I know we always made a loss on our music evenings that was why we gave up on them.

10:1181264Really good to see local music in the town. Makes you more inclined to go out and about town on a wintry dark evening.
I've seen two really good bands in the last two weeks - saw Vivid Nation from Canterbury at the Park Inn last week who did a rock set of covers and their own material and the band Near Miss at the Eagle last weekend who done pop and rock covers.
Both bands were totally different and it was nice to see them out and about in the town. I picked up leaflets of the local music scene in the Park Inn and I must admit its looking pretty good up til Christmas with local bands at the Park Inn every weekend! In one of them there was even a advert about the White Horse and a pic of Jeanette inside the cover, great publicity for our pubs and local music can surely only be good for them.

11:4781271It's great to see it on the up in Dover....
There's plenty of talent about in the area and it would be a great pity if the publicans were to cease supporting new bands etc.
In my past experience the Landlords were always on a tight margin, maybe the way to go is to do a few Charity spots to encourage footfall and follow it up with a paid gig?
Perhaps get everyone who comes in to contribute to the charity by a fiver or such and then take it from there, so the charity gains, the artiste gets paid and the publican profits.
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........
