I must have upset Wrigley's with my post, trod in some gum without realising today and found out when I got home when it softened up enough to stick to the carpet. I will be arguing for the return of the death penalty to whoever drops chewing gum in the street.

Much as I dislike treading in dog toffee it is clear that one has done so before going inside anywhere.
With gum highly expensive equipment is needed to remove it from pavements, hence councils cannot afford to clear it as often as they would like,

I know the bus companies and I suspect other forms of transport spend thousands of pounds a year on purchasing chewing gum remover and on paying out claims to people who have had their clothes damaged by the dam stuff, where mindless idiots put it on the seats as they get off.

Not only councils then, Bus and presumably rail operators are having to fork out. In my opinion the chewing gum manufacturers should be levied to pay towards the clean ups. I don't feel the same way about take aways, most provide bins for rubbish to be put in and the cost of sweeping up the detritus is on a much smaller scale.
