  There is a fund-raising art exhibition for the Dover-based Lion-Aid (www.lionaid.org) Charity at the Burlington Hotel in Folkestone this week-end. 10.00 am to 4pm.
  
  Jean and I went over there today and there are many, many pictures - photos and paintings.
  
  These paintings and photographs are by many well known artists of Lions and other African animals and are being sold to raise funds so Lions can be saved.
  
  We all think there are thousands of lions roaming around Africa and I am happy to say there are, but many thousands less than there used to be - in the last 50 years, the lion population has been reduced by 90%.
  There are now less than 20,000 lions in the whole continent and the numbers are reducing rapidly and nothing real - until Lion-Aid came along, is being done to stop it.
  
  There are a number of reasons for this, some reduction is due to poachers, some is due to trophy hunters, but a lot is due to AIDS.
  
  There are many ways to raise funds for Lion conservation, one way is to purchase a beautiful picture of lions at the Burlington Hotel.
  
  Of course, another way to help and support Lion-Aid, is to make a regular donation (whatever figure you are comfortable with); details how do so and find out much more on Lions and how to save, conserve and preserve them, is found on their website:

  Please do help; if nothing is done very soon, the numbers will go beyond what is safe to keep them.

  will get down there tomorrow, hard to keep up with our endangered species.
  
  a while back it was the mountain gorillas then the cheetahs, now the lions.
  
  would be a dull colourless world without these creatures.

  It certainly would Howard. Whether you buy or not, it's good to see the pictures and hear about the work they are doing.
  
  Lion Aid is a Dover-based Charity and it has already been discussed in Parliament as to how the Charity can be supported.
  
  There is a Professor Pieter Katt who is doing much good work in Africa and raising awareness of the plight of the Lions.

  i did roger after a lovely walk along the leas beforehand.
  
  came away 20 quid lighter, some great stuff there, amazing that a charity trying to help wild life in africa is based in dover.
  
  some of the photos and paintings of those great beasts left me awe inspired.

  So pleased you were inspired Howard, there are/were, some wonderful pictures there.
  
  Hope they raised lots of money; it's scary to think of how the numbers of lions have been decimated - mostly my mankind, but also aids.
  
  They're benefitting from the Workplacement scheme I'm mananging, by having a research assistant from the LSBC programme.
