Myself & my partner heard a rumour some mths ago that there was going to be a lidl in Dover & the person that told us thought it was going into the new retail park where B&M's & Pets at home is but after going up today to have a look around B&M's I was disappointed to see that there wasn't one up there. So then I wondered if maybe it was going on the James St development or was it just a rumour I'd love to know ??? Do you know for sure that there's definitely a Lidl being built in Dover or is it as I suspect just a rumour if anybody knows can you pls reply to this post pls thanks

I was told there was a Lidl before I moved here on the corner of Castle St and Woolcomber St, as Ellaouise says there is one in ShellonsSt Folkestone.

I dont know if its a rumour or not,the Folkestone shop is fairly big,i,ve never been in the Hawkinge one.To be honest i,ve not used that many branches to know what the average size is.

Ellaouise. The Hawkinge one Andy has said about is a nice size shop all on the flat from the car park which is free and flat. Been there a few times always have good gear in their, worth a trip.

They are a pretty standard size and layout, though the Canterbury one (Sturry Road almost opposite Asda) is the mirror image of Hawkinge and is slightly more cramped.

As have relatives in Folkestone do shop occasional in both Lidl's but here in Dover we have Aldi's in Cherry Tree Avenue, which was extended in size last year. Just as good as Lidl. I have not come across a town where both stores operate. Poor Deal has neither a Lidl or an Aldi though lots of residents would like one.

Just for the record most of the towns in the East Midlands seem to have both. In Market Harborough a smaller town than either Dover or Deal we have Lidl, Aldi, Waitrose and Sainsbury all together at one end of the main shopping area.

Swindon (where one of my daughters lives) has 2 Lidls and 3 (soon to be 4) Aldis. Quite often what one branch doesn't have, another does!

Dover had a Lidl but non food to sell all the promotional stuff at the time in the old MFI. Andy was right on this one.
I would welcome Lidls in Dover.
(very exciting for me ;) ... ) Folkestone Lidls is not one I like due to hygiene. However I love the Hawkinge one and its brilliantly looked after too.
If Dover would have a Lidls ... I think shops like M&S will suffer as products have become so popular over time too. It even have its own bakery and is reasonable in price. I am a regular shopper of Lidls

Perhaps the lidl rumour is connected with the work going on in the old Sainsburys in the High St?
