nothing much on the news nowadays but clearly not a great deal has changed, much like in the other countries that were part of the "arab spring".

"Fair Libya trial for Gaddafi son 'impossible'"
http://www.aljazeera.com/news/europe/2012/07/20127615150122598.html
I don't know how fair, but I am sure it will be just as fair - if not more so - than procedures under his father and himself.
The only charges mentioned relate to the uprising and perhaps will be of sufficient 'moment' to conclude all business.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

no real gain for the libyan people though tom, the east and west of the country are divided as much now as when colonel gaddafi was in power.

Let's just hope the British Government doesn't get involved in Syria!
Big news is about to come out regards Iran, looks like we may be in for something big-time.

I hope not, there has been some rattling of sabres lately following the news that there is a massive stockpiling of chemical tipped scuds to be used against Israel

Syria hasn't threatened any country with chemical weapons, Barry.
They have very elite soldiers in control of their chemical stock-pile to prevent it ever falling in the hands of whoever, including global jihadists and Al Qaeda.

Keith B, Iranians are not Arabs.
Information coming through to me has set the alarm bells ringing. Looks like we might be in for a big one.

Syria may not have threatened Israel as of yet, but I wouldn't trust the government as far as I could throw them, also there are jihadists in the opposition armies who would love to get their hands on them.

The Syrian government is a secular one, assures the rights of minorities ethnic and religious, and has long ago made clear they will not invade Israel.
Russia is their best ally, and Russia is also friendly towards Israel.
Syrian government policies have nothing to do with those of the Iranian leadership, and to bomb the Syrian government into Iran's courtyard would be the most fatal error a government could take on the global chessboard.
Libya never had any powerful allies, so it would be fatal to compare the Libyan scenario to that of Syria.

As all these oil country's Descends in to a mess, what happens when the oil stops because of Islamic dislike of the west?
I think it will be very easy for politicians to send in the armies to get this oil with out to much opposition from the oil addicted voters.

Keith, if you mean that global jihadists might have an agenda to harm the West if they get to power, then you have a point there.
The rebels in Aleppo have openly admitted that the vast majority of the 2.5 million residents there do not want them (the rebels). It's no secret that Alawites and Christians in Syria fear the rebels taking over, as do many Sunnis too.
Wherever the rebels take over in Aleppo, the residents flee in mass to the government controlled areas. If those people in Syria fear the jihadists, then we should certainly not hope the jihadists take over there.
Currently there is great concern among British Security about the numbers of British citizens going to Syria to fight on the side of the jihadists, and others going to Somalia.
The belief is, they will come back as fully fledged terrorists and trigger off their hatred here.
