"No Hokey-Pokey on Sundays
Dover Black Listed
(To the editor of the Dover Express)
Dear Sir - It may interest your many readers to know that Dover has recently been placed at the bottom of a list of desireable seaside resorts for holiday makers, week-end and Sunday excursionists, owing to its utter lack of beach attractions, catering facilities, etc on Sundays. The great majority of persons object to their Sundays being made useless, as unattractive and even worse than their working days. It is the day of the week when they have time and money at their disposal, and as Dover advertises for visitors but refuses to give them attractions other seaside resorts do give, it is acting in a very Gilbertian manner, unless it expects visitors to bring their own meals. drinks, ice-cream, etc, and sit on the beach all day without moving.
The more enlightened clergy now agree with the bulk of the population as to the necessity for happier and brighter sundays; why does Dover lag behind? I trust that your readers will awaken to the incongruous state of affairs that gives to Dover a far from attractive reputation, and does no good to its rates, commerce, etc
