Sorry Alex please stop talking to us like we are idiots that haven't though of long term strategies !! We have brains and a lot of expertise, and we certainly are NOT taking advice from developers...
Any money that would come from the developments (don't forget Farthingloe is the main funding project with relatively little on the Heights) that would be match funded with Heritage Lottery Fund and other grants. When the Olympics is over there will be a lot of grant money available again.
It certainly isn't a case of get £xx million and spend it all on contractors and run. The developers won't be doing any work, they provide the funding and other bodies will be project managing the restoration. They don't own the 'heritage' areas of the Heights. With the scale of works of course it would involve employing people and I feel it would be a great project for apprenticeship schemes.
As a charitable body WHPS is key to being able to access such grants as English Heritage etc aren't able to access HLF grants for example.
As well as a 'lump sum', the Heights also need to be capable of providing their own funding stream which will continue to finance the ongoing maintenance and opening up of the Heritage. Paying visitors and some element of income from the memorial and hotel would also trickle into funding. As time goes on more can be opened and made safe and available to the public
We are in it for the long term.
I cannot see why you are failing to grasp this ??????
