Alexander, to tell you how the real world works as Paul says. I have been a member of a group trying for 3 years to get grant funding to restore a 200 year old flint wall in exactly the same way that most of the Drop Redoubt needs work doing on it. Our estimates are over £100,000 for about 800 square metres. DDC have no funding for the work, the funding they initially had to just help us to try get grants is now drying up but we are still trying.

I'm also as a parish councillor at this very moment dealing with quotes for repairing and restoring the wall at Grade 2* listed St Mary's church in Lydden, a builing dating back 900 years.

A quick estimate based on Paul's figures for length and height plus associated costs works out at about £15 million pounds at today's prices - if you think that sort of money is just sitting around waiting to be handed out then have a go yourself at doing something practical trying to get it.
