We still don't have the final plan of the Western Heights development from CGI so I don't quite understand the vehement disapproval of any change from certain parties. Expend the energy when we have the final plan, assuming the whole plan doesn't get completely scuppered by third parties, and the whole project turned into yet another sad 'what could have been' footnote on Dover's history.
Under Section 106 there is a very strong likelihood of some of developer's capital being directed into heritage work at the Heights. This is of benefit to everyone and the future generations who deserve to have an asset to explore handed to them. Money is simply not going to come from any other source, no billionaire, not EH and certainly not DDC. Embrace it and have a chance of there being something to hand on, or reject and enjoy watching the walls crumble.
There is potential for a great deal of good here. This doesn't mean that any planning should be accepted as read as a good thing by default - wait for the final plans and try to evaluate them reasonably and rationally.
It is all a gamble, but playing safe and shouting for 'no change' is tantamount to stagnation, and we've all had quite enough of that.
As an expert gardener, why don't you come and help us Alex? A man so clearly passionate and dedicated would be welcome to start de-vineing four and a half miles of moats assuming EH will let you off the leash. I'm afraid there is no money to pay you, but that's the nature of voluntary work of course.
