When I was teaching it was apparently very important not to let the thickos know that they were actually thick (as apparently it would damage their all important 'self esteem') - which is why there is a whole generation wandering around wondering why they are in a crap job on zero-hours contracts (CLUE - it's because they are thick and it's all they are worth paying).
To this end we used to do 'whole class' teaching with 'differentiation' and use brain storming (before that got renamed as it could be considered offensive to epileptics!). One would write the topic in the middle of the board and write down the kid's ideas around it, however idiotic they were, as one didn't want to appear 'judgemental' and as we all know many of us have other than academic talents which are equally valuable in an inclusive society. (Ha, bloody ha - I'm sure having the intellect of a small rock was useful years ago but it's 2017 and if you are not literate and numerate you are rather surplus to requirements).
It would appear that Dover Town Council have done much the same with their production of their Transport Policy Statement and gone for the brain storming (were they to have had one to storm) a mixture of cut-and-paste, stupid ideas and the bleedin' obvious!
'Tunnel from Eastern Docks to Whitfield/Shepherdswell (4 miles)'? Why not!
'Not to accept substandard repairs to pavements & Pedestrian areas'? Policy change?
'Introduce a free Tram/Land Train from the Cruise Terminal to Buckland Mill'? Even better than the 'cable car' proposal!
'All relevant signage needs to be clean, visible & free of foliage & pointing in the right direction if referring to a point of destination'? Point of destination? Is the writer's first language English? Or are they getting confused with the use of the term 'port of destination'?
The whole pathetic document is here for your perusal (pages 15 - 24). I can remember having stuff like this handed in, ripping it up, and telling the kid's to start all over again and to actually try 'thinking' about the topic rather than randomly coming up with phrases vaguely connected (and it
wasn't when I was teaching at a Grammar School - just saying!)
