Latest from Kent police
Kent Police is continuing to work to help motorists stranded on the county's roads as a result of the snow and icy conditions.
There continues to be traffic problems across Kent, in particular the M2 with very slow traffic.
The M20, especially the coastbound carriageway between junctions 11a and eight, is blocked with traffic after the Channel Tunnel closed overnight and motorists are urged to avoid the M20 at all costs.
Detling Hill, while under snowy conditions, is passable and the A249 is clear from Stockberry to Sheppey.
The A2 is clear between Brenley and Canterbury but is impassable at Barham with traffic backed up to Whitefields.
The Sheppey crossing is currently open and the A257 is now clear but there have been reports that Sutton Valance is experiencing dangerous icy conditions.
Bluebell Hill is stacked back to the 'Running Horse' and Etching Hill and Swanton Lane are blocked with some snow drifts in the area reaching up to 10ft in height.
Acting Chief Inspector Kay Maynard said: 'We have been trying to get to as many people as possible to offer reassurance as well as deal with problems on the roads caused by collisions and broken down vehicles.'
Kent Police has dealt with hundreds of calls from motorists reporting collisions, broken down vehicles and those that had to be abandoned as drivers have been unable to continue their journey. Many minor and rural roads have become impassable.
Snow, high winds and freezing temperatures are expected to continue throughout Tuesday so motorists are advised to only travel if necessary.
Those heading out should:
Check with travel operators that services are running.
Tune in to local radio for news about road conditions and possible closures.
Check the weather forecast and plan the best time to travel.
Drivers should ensure they take a fully charged mobile phone on their journey, make sure there is sufficient fuel in the car and take water and a snack in case your journey is delayed.
