  The common European hornet, strange they would even produce the piece must be a slow news day!!!

  It's not the first, we had them in Lydden last year (the Asian version that is, and spotted by a wildlife expert so no confusion over i.d.).

  The non story is on the front page of a tabloid this morning but as far as I can ascertain the sting from one of these has much the same effect as a bee or wasp sting. There are a few people that have a condition where it could be fatal, can't remember what they call it.

  Thanks John it has been bugging me all day. I only knew about it from a work of fiction I read a couple of years back.
  
  Must be awful for sufferers as most of us when stung go "ouch" and put some germolene on thinking no more about it.
