Yep, Tom, been explaining this for about three years now: all lorries pay road tolls in most European countries, and tunnel tolls too, including the Mont Blanc (and not only). As do cars for that matter.
In fact tunnel tolls are very expensive in the Alps.

It's probably only Britain where no tolling is done.

Howard, I must have written that on the Forum a few times, including two years ago, that Kent County Council also started asking the Government to introduce a vehicle toll at Dover Port, about 1 year after my first representation, which was in Feb 2010.
In fact, KCC and I had contacts over this, in which they explained their position and how much they were suggesting be paid as a toll for cars, and I explained my position and proposals.

Practically we gave each other courage to continue asking the Government for a road toll at Dover Port.

But one difference is, my proposal also includes local regeneration.

As we can see from Vic's post, not everyone is aware that tolling is a major source of income in Europe, and some are misled to think that if we introduced a toll, we would be at "economic war" with Europe, with "counter-actions".

Totally misleading there, Vic. Very sad!
