    Dear Stakeholder

Welcome to the latest news from the Gateway to Europe. The Port of Dover continues to move forward on an incredible journey with its customers and community. More record freight volumes on what is the fastest growing shipping route in the UK – and that’s post-referendum! Our national importance is becoming increasingly recognised, which is supporting our work to secure better road infrastructure and a Brexit that keeps 17% of the UK’s trade in goods flowing through Europe’s busiest ferry port. We may be leaving the European Union but we are not leaving Europe and as our largest trading partner, traffic fluidity or, as the Prime Minister has said, frictionless borders, between the UK and mainland Europe is vital.

We have been making excellent progress on securing a strong future for our business.

We were successful in acquiring ownership of the cargo terminal business. We are also achieving some key milestones on our journey to deliver our single biggest ever investment by reviving the Western Docks to create a new cargo and logistics facility and transformed waterfront. As important to Dover’s regeneration as it is to supporting national economic prosperity, we are already taking great strides towards that agenda by utilising our unique assets to make Dover a destination and will continue to do so through major events such as our recent and hugely successful White Cliffs Christmas.

What all of this tells me is that it is our exciting business as usual at the Port of Dover.

Enjoy reading more about how the Port of Dover team is meeting the commitment to be the best for the benefit of our customers and community.

Tim Waggott, Chief Executive, Port of Dover
