did anyone see the piece on meridian earlier?
residents filmed drunkenness, fighting, damage to cars, shouting and screaming all in the early hours and urinating through letter boxes on a regular basis, and the blokes were no better.
made dover look very good.
We dont have to wait until night time to see that , a trip to the high street and market square in the day time is enough

My office is in the heart of the city. You would not believe what is deposited in our doorway on a regular basis despite the security camera nearby. We daren't leave milk bottles out overnight!!

in the article residents had presented the police with all the filmed evidence and were told it was not admissible in law.
if that is so why are ccctv images ok?
just seemed to me an excuse to do nothing.
Even if it isn't admissable in law it could be used as a basis for speaking with the perps.

Yes watched this on the news earliar this evening, was most surprised one would always asume that Canterbury being a city would at least have a bigger show of Police officers around.
Even if the residents evidence cann't be used it should still be taken on board by the Police and should be investigated.

agree jan, what struck me was that it all happened in a small villagey part of the city, nowhere near the centre where trouble might be expected.
the residents were right to take it to the television people if they felt they were not being given any police protection.
Ive lived in Canterbury on and off all my life , its honestly nothing new , it may have got worse but the events have always happened .

I saw the piece, the area is quite close to the city centre but has the feel of a village according to the residents because they are a little community isolated from any others, but is on the route from the centre to outlying estates.
The video evidence wasn't allowed to be presented at a council meeting, not to the police, I think it's a rule that 'props' aren't allowed and that's how videos are classified.
One interesting fatc that came out was a new regulation that if at least 5 people get together and complain to the police about this sort of behavious then they have to investigate - whether anything would then come of it who knows.
Might be repeated at 10.30 in a shortened version.

your understanding of it is different to mine ray, not about presentation but whether it could be used in a court of law.
the 5 people complaining bit can be interpreted in different ways.
i suspect it would boil down to 5 complaints about one incident which is unlikely to happen.

the short answer is to put some straglicly placed claymoores and give residents the control button.all the anti social problems very quickly.
