attendances at race courses have been steadily falling over the years, entrance fees and catering prices are too high for most people, i think more will fold in the future.

As I mentioned before I haven't attended this racecourse, but I have been to Newmarket Racecourse a couple of time when they have their "Newmarket Nights" events. It's a day of racing followed by a well known singer or band in the evening.
I've seen Bryan Adams and Westlife...
Maybe this kind of event at Folkestone might bring in the crowds.

the only good news is that the war and peace show will be there for the next 5 years, with an option of a few more.
saves going all the way to bluebell hill site.

Jean and I have been to Folkestone Racecourse a few times and enjoyed our days there. It had become too expensive and didn't appear to be marketed properly. It used to be that you could pay your entrance fee and enjoy a 3 course meal for £24 each, but after the refubishment it went sky-high and we didn't go.
The owners don't seem to have the flexibility to reduce prices in say the Autumn/Winter periods to draw the crowds in.

there were complaints that people could only consume food and drink purchased on the course and that bags were searched of people entering.

Wrong attitude then Howard, people should have been encouraged to go and even take their own food in; there'll always be people who want to eat there and not take their own, so it wouldn't have harmed businesses in there, if they'd kept prices realistic.

If I remember rightly, in the '70's the track was dug up and changed to an "All Weather" track.
The first meeting after that had to be cancelled due to the fog !
What a shame to see another attraction closing.
